Cabot Food Bank needs help to prepare and serve a meal for 100 people on the third Wednesday of each month (September 15).  They also need help unloading trucks on the first Monday of each month (September 6).  Contact the office or Tim Lucas to volunteer.

We still need Senior High Youth Leaders.  Call Pastor Howard.

During August we are collecting items for Prison Outreach Ministries.  Items needed:  backpacks, duffel bags, small stuffed animals, travel-sized toiletries, kids and youth puzzle books and craft supplies.  You can also donate funds to provide Disciple Bible Studies for prison inmates.

The Mission Encounter Team is helping Center UMC in Natrona Heights with its Angel Food Ministries.  This non-denominational, non-profit organization began in 1994 and has centers throughout the country.  Its main objective is to provide some relief to climbing grocery costs by offering boxes filled with meats, vegetables, fruit, baking supplies, and a dessert for a mere $30.00.  There are no income qualifications, memberships, or limits when purchasing the packages, which vary from month to month.  Our role is to help Center UMC on its monthly distribution day and to take any orders.  Monetary donations will also be accepted if you would like to purchase one (or more!) of these packages and allow Center to give it to a family in need.  There is a poster in the narthex with information.   Call Jennifer to volunteer your help.
Zion supports the Cabot UMC Food Bank, and we are now collecting every week, not just every other month.  Try to get into the habit of bringing an item with you each Sunday to place in the collection box.  They need nonperishable food, paper products, cleaning supplies, toothpaste, and monetary donations.
Share your plentiful garden bounty with your Zion family on the Harvest Table in the Narthex.  Bring something if you've got it, take something if you need it.  Yes, even zucchinis!

Senior High and Junior High Youth groups will have their kick-offs on September 12 (Senior High at the Church, Junior High at Cheryl's for swimming and wiener roast); Elementary Youth and Kidz Klub will have their kick-offs September 12, too--come hungry.

We need a piano accompanist for the church choir.  Jeff has served so faithfully and capably, but is retiring.  This is a paid position, and involves Wednesday night practices and Sunday morning services.  Contact the church if interested in this position.

Thank you to our Trustees, who have several urgent repair/maintenance projects to deal with here at Zion.  The work is getting done, thanks to their efforts and many hours of volunteered time.  There is still much to do, so your skills and support are needed (and appreciated).

We will continue to go to the Mission Barn the first and third Monday of each month (meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. to carpool) as long as they need us.  Let Ginger or Sandy know if you're going.  Copy paper boxes are still needed--bring them to Room #4 or #8.

Our Fall Blood Drive is Thursday, September 16, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in Room #9 (downstairs Nursery).  Sign-up sheets are on the narthex hall bulletin board, but walk-ins are very welcome!

Check out our newly-painted steeple!  Such a beautiful white spire against the blue sky!
If you can knit or crochet, we have patterns to make baby sweaters for the layette kits distributed by the Mission Barn.  Just pick one up in the narthex, or contact the office.
Zion is blessed to be selected as a location for one of Paper Retriever's paper recycling bins.  It's here--and already almost full!  Please be sure to follow guidelines for use posted on the side of the bin.  Yes, paper and magazines and newspapers.  No phone books or cardboard or plastic or trash.
